New Owner of 1989 MX5

Hello everyone,

I’m a new owner of 1989 MX-5

With little to no service history

I plan to restore it along the way and do some upgrades all by myself

I do have few mechanical experience and that is just from 2 stroke vintage bikes

So wish me luck as I would be here quite a lot asking for everyone’s advice and more like a blog of what I do .

I’m based in Luton

Thanks in advance to everyone

One of so many that eventually followed over 3 + decades.
A worthy platform to become a show day original benchmark icon perhaps.
Does not look hacked up, thank God.
What you do entirely your business..
I know what I’d be doing! :innocent:

Thankfully previous owner was a lady and she only wanted to drive the car and only on summers and garaged for the rest of the year.

So it is completely stock.

under sealed and one side sill repaired

So for me I need to repair the other one.

And do a full maintenance and start from there

I won’t be doing any crazy mods just few moderate ones to improve handling and let the engine breathe a lot better that’s all

Well done on the purchase…is this an early short nose crank engine?

I belive it to be, i’m not too sure but could you tell me how to check?
I would think it to be.

Just looked it up…so it should be a short nose.

Identification: Early 1.6 cars (often 1989-1990, some early 1991) have a short nose. Look for 4 slots in the crank pulley instead of 8 in later “long nose” models.

What is also interesting is the VIN can be used to identify when the car was produced at the factory.
