New policy for a 3rd car i.e. no NCB

Looking to add an NC to the family but NCB is being used on our respective cars, as a third car so would need a new policy with no NCB, anyone know of insurance company that will match NCB or discount? Other than NCB of current cars any idea on evidence needed? My current multicar policy only has a maximum of 2 cars which isn’t exactly helpful.

Cheers in advance

A-Plan will mirror your NCB from another policey.

Admiral mirrored the value of the 12yrs NCD I had on my existing car, when I added my mx5 to our multicar policy, making it 3 in total. Be interesting to see what happens at renewal.

They’ll put the price up, they did with me I refused it and told them too much. I’m still with them for a 2nd term after we came to a price I was happy with.

Yes as above they will help with mirroring NCD.

I had my everyday driver, Skoda Octavia, covered by Direct Line and when I bought my MX5 I asked DL about a multicar policy to add MX5. It worked out almost £100 more expensive than having two separate policies! I insured MX5 with Lancaster, Skoda still with Direct Line. As their renewal dates were close together I shopped around for multicar and couldn’t find any that were cheaper than two separate polices. Makes no sense.

A quick search shows that Admiral and AXA will mirror NCD. Have you actually spoken to your insurance company? Nothing to stop you taking out a multi-car policy with somebody else who will mirror your NCD and cancelling your existing policy. If you tell your company that you will have to do this if they don’t offer to mirror then they just might offer something suitable.

Thanks, I’m with quoteme “but dont talk to me” happy, their multiple care policy is maxed at 2 cars, their FAQs dont cover it, I’ve dropped them an email but wondered if their was any MX5OC recommendations for specific providers as not convinced other than initial year that MC policies stack up vrs single policies.

I’ve an A plan local to me, will give them a shout when get a chance.

All becomes clear. I’m with ‘quote me happy’ too. It’s not actually a multi car policy, it’s a discount if you have two policies with them. From the looks of their site it doesn’t look like they do mirror NCD but hopefully they will let you know soon. If it’s a ‘no’  then ask them for proof of your NCD on both your existing policies so you can go elsewhere.

If you do have to take out a third policy without NCD there is nothing to stop you using the NCD on the most expensive premiums. For example you have a ten year old Kia Picanto with full NCD and are adding an Aston Martin V8 Vantage to your garage. Transfer the existing policy with full NCD to the Aston and pay full price on a new policy for the Kia.

Disclaimer - No disrespect to the Kia Picanto - other small, sh*t cars are available.

it only has to be mirrored once.

As soon as it’s shown on next years renewal quote, use it to shop around.

Hi there,

I was in the same position a few years ago and just took out a policy with no NCD - wasn’t as dear as I thought it would be (£200 ish).  I must add this was when I had an unblemished 30 odd year driving record - things altered a bit when I wrote of my Launch Edition
