- My model of MX-5 is: 2008 NC Sport
- I’m based near: Warwick
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: New rear tyres. My current KUHMO tyres on the rear wheels are at their final stages with <2.2mm of tread depth. I recently noticed a higher level of tyre noise and can’t inspire a lot of confidence while cornering hard. I am looking for some nice tyres which offer a good balance between comfort, performance & life (as this is my current daily). PS5 is in my wish list but it is a bit over my budget. Any alternatives or better value for money are most welcome, thanks in advance.
Have you considered going up a size to 215/45R17 like many have done ?
They seem to come out a bit cheaper than the 205/45R17
Also - if you know someone with a COSTCO card - they regularly have deals on Michelin tyres.
Replace with new Kumho PS71’s if that’s what’s on the front. Worn tyres (your rears) will feel sketchy with just around 2 mm left, guessing most brands will.
Always best to replace as a set of 4 and rotate tyres front to rear etc to get even wear prolonged use from the set you fit.
No problems fitting another brand of course, as you say P5, Rainsports it’s just not really best for the overall feel on an MX-5 which most will say are sensitive to tyre selection you choose.
