New Vinyl hood and fitting Mk2 yr2000

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __mk2
  2. I’m based near: __Chertsey, Surrey
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __new vinyl hood with glass window inc fitting

Think you may need to expand on what you are looking for. Where to buy? How to fit? Recommendation on someone to fit for you?

I went Mohair with BAS International for my NBFL and had it fitted to my old vinyl frame by the garage that was renovating my car with no issues. It is a two man job as the material, mohair or vinyl, has to be streched over the frame with a bit of Wheatabixes.

Reason I chose BAS is the back window fittment is exactly as per OEM. Here is a link to their vinyl Mk1/Mk2 hood with glass window :- MX5 MK1 Glass Window Upgrade (H560E)

I need a hood replaced completely, so looking for recommendations to have a new one supplied & fitted, preferably in Surrey, or within 50 mile radius.
Its a Mk2 YR 2000.
I believe vinyl hoods are cheaper than mohair, and it’s quite urgent with autumn coming, so will have cheapest option with a glass window.

Cheapest way would be to get a decent second hand one and do it yourself, set a side a day and it is quite doable with all the youtube vids to guide you. A couple of years ago I did this and replaced my disintegrated vinyl with 2nd hand mohair which came in around the £ 250 mark.

Your Mazda looks stunning

So, I’m thinking of other way i can maybe make this roof last a few months longer, do you know if there is a waterproof vinyl roof spray or wrap that would work and protect it for around a further 6 months, until spring time at least?

Also. I don’t suppose you have any advice on window relay switches as they are both intermittent at the moment- it’s a struggle to open the windows.
The last thing is the dent at the front will need to be filled right??
I am going to try and make this my project over the next couple of months :relieved:

TY for the comp.

Without using miles of gaffa tape and maybe some thick plastic sheet I cannot think how you will make it last much longer and still be able to use it.

I take it you do not have a hard top ?

Roadster Robbie is the man to help with the electrics, aside from the odd sensor mine have held together so far… touching wood as I type. I did find my boden cables had slipped their original fittings. The cables were fouling the windows as they went down and so used a couple of cable ties to bodge a repair that has lasted 5 or six years. Just need to lube the boden cables at the beginning and end of summer and so far so good.

If you edit your previous post you should be able to reload your pics then wait until they have finished uploading, so we can see them.

You can buy soft top repair patch kits

I have patched hood with glued on vinyl patches on both sides of a tear; they looked ugly but did the job.

For small holes

Larger

Longevity depends on prep.
