New young member ( and dad )

This all started with the very first reg nos, as you say EN would probably be prevalent around bury. The allocation of of the letters were purely random then. The latest reg nos do have a relevance to their region, the first one or two letters are not not always obvious. Anything beginning L is London, E for Essex, H for Havant.
I know, I’m sad for remembering all this, all started when I was boy and mad on car spotting when we had interesting and distinguishable cars on the road.

Yes. And -WH for Bolton, -NC for Manchester, WR, WS,WT, WW for West Riding. I think YA YB and YC were Somerset and all the Irish ones had a Z them. Many of those with three letter ones with P in the middle were Surrey, and M in the middle was Middlesex. I used to have many more memorised as a child.

we have a similar system here in Austria: W for Vienna, S for Salzburg, SP for Sankt Pölten, etc. Quite easy.

Best,

David

Hey guys! I’m also new here… picking up my first ever MX5 on Saturday and I cannot wait!! I look forward to chatting and meeting you all in person at some point

Well it wasn’t a problem choosing Christmas presents for Sam this year.
Also not in the photo are a set of over mats that are already in the car and a purpose made car cover.
Hopefully we can get out this weekend and give the car a good wash and wax with all his new cleaning gear.
Used the car a few times over the last couple of weeks and I have to say it’s fantastic.
All the best for the new year to everyone,

Thanks.
Yes, Sam was delighted to be approached to do a feature for the magazine.
We haven’t had the time or the weather to spend a lot of time on his car yet.
Been busy building an extension at home so all time taken up on that, but nearly done.
So with spring around the corner ( hopefully) and the house nearly finished we can turn our attention to the cars.
It’s Sam’s birthday next week so he has asked for money from us towards rustproofing treatment for his car. Bet that’s a first for a 12 year old.
To be fair the car is not in bad condition. Needs a few bits sorting on the paint but seeing as underneath is rust free seems the right thing to do and start with protecting that before doing anything cosmetic.
Roll on longer warm days when we can be back outside tinkering.

Yesterday for Sam’s birthday, the sun was out, it wasn’t freezing cold so the perfect opportunity to take the hardtop off and have a birthday blast with the top down.
We’re we live we have a nice round circuit that takes in country side, Southport sea front and takes about an hour. What an absolute hoot.
First time we’ve been able to have a fun drive in the sunshine.
Saturday going to get our hands dirty, give it a once over under the bonnet and underneath and give it a good wash.

Thorough job. We spent about four hours on it yesterday.
Sam was never this enthusiastic about helping clean my cars.
Even took the boot carpet out to clean underneath.
Showed him how to check the levels of everything under the bonnet and he showed me where everything is. Think he’s been revising the Haynes manual.

If Sam lifts the interior carpets, on the passenger side there may be a “Good Luck” Yen coin put in at Hiroshima there so tell him to watch out for it.

I never knew this was a thing until I just googled it after reading your message.
If we ever come across one we’ll leave it there.
