Any information on the white brace bar across the engine bay? Why it’s there, what it does etc. Never seen one before.
Found a thread here Fitting the NC Ultra Racing Strut brace - help please!
It’s an ultra racing strut brace!
I can see at least 2 brands of tyre, one of which is a ‘cheap’ one. Could be a bargaining point.
As always it is ‘rust’ then ‘rust’ and finally ‘rust’. Check underneath very carefully, especially if there is fresh ‘underseal’ evident.
Good luck, hope it is a good one.
Might be worth a car vertical check. Jayemm, Carwow, Matt Armstrong, High Peak etc on YouTube, all plug them and offer discount codes
There is nothing about service history, no air con, cloth seats, and claims to have factory underseal. Plastic hood rather than mohair, no expence spared! Too many red flags. Keep looking.
I’ve also just noticed it’s described as the SE (AC) variant which I guess means air conditioning but it clearly doesn’t have AC. It’s also on sorn so unlikely I’ll get a test drive.
Beginning to think you’re right about the red flags.
You’ll be very dissapointed with that compared to a 2.0 Sport tech

Just viewed the car linked above. Lovey motor. No signs of rust underneath. Little bit of bubbling in the boot well but no holes.
Wing mirrors don’t adjust off the switch which is annoying. Any idea how much a new motor for one of these might cost to have fitted?
You seem very determined to buy this car. Did you ask the owner about the MOT discrepancy or ask how to switch on the nonexistent air conditioning? Could be just a fuse if both motors are not working or the switch. Motor removal is about one hour of work by a garage plus the cost of the new part.
Yep. The lcd display failed or was failing and mileage unreadable. Also confirmed by garage that has done the mot for last few years. I saw the car today and have to say I was really impressed. Drives well. No clunks or strange noises. Steering is sharp. Everything works as it should bar the wing mirrors. Underneath looks rust free. Checked all the important places. I’ll post some vids shortly. Decided to buy it
Well, I cannot stop you from buying it, but remember it is a low-spec 1.8 and the price is far too high. The alloys are in poor shape, 16 inch, and the battery cover is missing. Just hope there is a full service history. Try to get the price down.
Wow lets put a damper on things eh
Sorry but I agree with Raymond
Alloys in poor shape ? Only 16" Battery cover missing … Wow
Someone has asked advice , it’s been given.
A decision was then made to purchase.
End of…,…shouldn’t be a case of “well don’t say I didn’t warn you” worded differently.
Maybe the car needs a little tlc , maybe the OP is willing to carry out any work needed as most of us are.
Let’s hope the car is sound and the OP enjoys it as much as the rest of us.
Well, that’s my bonfire well and truly extinguished!. Perhaps I could respond by giving my view on the car; given I viewed it and met the owner.
It’s true the car is not a high spec. and is only a 1.8. Some on here also believe I paid too much for it. (N.B. you haven’t actually asked if I managed to bargain the seller down. I did as it happens but not by a huge amount).
I did my own research and I felt the car was fairly priced given it’s age, condition and mileage. I am not new to buying second hand motors but I am new to convertibles and the MX-5. My primary focus when choosing a car was condition, no rust and mileage. I wanted something to have some fun in. I don’t have much time to spend maintaining a vehicle but do appreciate older cars like this will require some of my time spent on keeping it in good condition.
The seller was a lovely chap. A moderately successful business owner with a nice house in a nice location. We chatted for some time and got on well with several areas of mutual interest. I certainly don’t think he was trying to sell me a pup.
All-in-all I am happy with my purchase. I collect next week and am looking forward to a few years of exciting driving round the local B roads.
Quick nod to PaleRider - appreciate your input. It’s a pity not everyone on here is as pragmatic.
Enjoy mate …
It looks a fair price, low mileage, certainly not been a daily driver and looks well cared for.
Enjoy👍
