Have done my research and would like as new as possible roadster (I always thought this was the folding hardtop- am open to correction, but if not lots advertise soft top/convertables as roadsters which perhaps are not??), due to no garage and don’t much fancy a fabric hood left out the whole time and a cover would be a faff.
Read up on guides here, but could someone explain the mk3/.5/.75 thing to me- I assume this is just midlife updates, but if some kind person could point out the differences/ years, I would very much appreciate it.
Budget 10k, 2.0 sport or special edition on the wish list.
Love the copper red but only seen these up to 2008/9- was this colour discontinued around then?
Copper Red was a Mazda colour until 2013 when Zeal Red took over, they are very similar, my avatar is Zeal Red.
Model wise, Mk3s came out in 2005 with the NC1, the car was improved considerably in 2009 with the NC2 and the NC3 in 2011.
Roadster or Coupe is the PRHT (power hard top) they are nice cars and for 10k you should get a good one, I think there might be one in the club magazine, will check and let you know.
Check this site for ALL information, and I mean ALL!
Want the 2.0 for extra power and spec, only thing putting me off is it’s essentially a Ford engine, pretty durable, but still a Ford! whereas the 1.8 is all Mazda, right? Both chain so no worries there, again stand to be corrected.
Don’t think my budget will stretch to a zeal red, or better still, white, given these are later colours- the copper red looks more orangey in some lights (saw one recently and looked great in the sun).
Condition and history more important than colour as I’m a fussy old so and so!
In my opinion Velocity Red is Mazda’s best colour, recently that came on the Sport Black and Kuro special editions, both could possibly fall into your budget.
The one in the club mag is a 2008, it is a pampered car but to be honest I would go for the NC2 or NC3, the interior, engine and suspension were really improved in 2009.
I did see a nice one on auto trader, you would get a 2010/1 car for your budget.
However, SWMBO doesn’t like the stickers and black wheels of the Kuro, or the black glossy bits of the Black (I would jump all over the green Black edition mind).
Miyako looks a good option…but most are the aluminium colour, not my first choice.
Could you link me the 2008 one as I am after a looked after one and no doubt on that year would be cheaper.
Maybe not cheaper as it’s a cherished baby and the price reflects “the love”.
The car is a 2.0 Sport PRHT, 18,500 miles. Pioneer double din dab with reversing camera, new tyres, dics and pads, battery, wipers, it’s kept in a de-humidified garage.
It’s Galaxy Grey and priced at £9200. currently on sorn as it’s a summer car. Tel Rob 01437762508 or 07977544392
The green is beautiful, not many about so if it’s your cup of tea it’s the one to have. Shame this one has such a lot of miles but then a car is to be driven.
No problem, stone chips are a problem with the MX-5, mine is only two years old and I have more than I am happy with. Car does sound honest but as you say, no rush at this time of year. Good luck on your search, you have some nice roads nearby that are crying out for an MX-5 to explore them in.
Reading this am I right in saying your in w.yorks de Dog?
Take a look at gledhills of Ossett, a 58 plate 2.0sport 23,000 miles in the colour you mentioned, black leather, £7500… Money left from your 10k to buy some mx bling!
Hope you get sorted soon and start to live through your crisis haha
Seen that one but is a soft top, but thanks anyway.
just looking at this…
Nice colour and quite local hmmm.
I very much prefer to buy privately, I reckon you get a better feel for a car that way- someone chopping one in might have hidden issues which most garages wouldn’t care a jot about, they just stick them on forecourt after a quick wash and don’t know a thing about it.
I like how radio is set to radio2- that wouldn’t need changing.
Funny that- I considered an mr2 but the folding hardtop has swayed things as we don’t have a garage and would fret about a fabric roof being exposed to the elements 24/7.
The OH likes the Renault Wind- actually not bad but a tad girly for a grizzly old fart like me.
Not looking at all at the 1.8- I figure if I’m gonna get one, get a biggun!
