Nextbase 402g DashCam fitted into Mk3 NC

After trying a cheapy 720p Fleabay dash camera, I wanted to fit one that had better resolution (1080p) and better night vision.  I plumped for the Nextbase 402g from Amazon.  It’s a Which? best buy as well.  I also opted for a hard wiring kit as I didn’t want loads of wire trailing all over the place.

The suction cup it comes with is very steady and doesn’t move but IMHO, is quite large for a discrete fitting, it just places the camera too far down for me.  I sourced a glue pad mount for under £5 from Amazon.  As I wanted to be able to take the cam off every now and then, I did a bit of glass papering to the mount to make it a looser fit to slide on and off.  It’s still very secure with no wobbles when the clip engages.  This places the camera behind the driver’s mirror out of temptation’s way to look at it whilst driving.  I have the screen off anyway though.

I hardwired the unit with the leads from the kit into the fuse box on the passenger side footwell and using the supplied piggy back fuse connector, tapped into the ACC fused (2nd down from memory).  However, you can put these in 180 deg out and this flattened my battery overnight supplying power to the cam continuously.  A quick refit and all’s been well since.

Viewed from the driver’s seat, you can hardly see the unit at all, just a wire.  Much better than the supplied mount.  Now it’s in, I just forget about it, hopefully not needing it in anger. I’ll post some footage later.

Hi Simon, I have the same unit, excellent quality, just wish I could understand how to set it properly, first time I used it, great footage, but no sound !!
