The castings will oxidise again over time it’s true, but it does seem a bit OTT to paint it all. On the Ducatis nothing could be done (except paint) the barrel but I just used to regularly dress the crankcases with WD40 which stopped the re-oxidation. Whatever, when your putting so much effort into the re-build it’s nice not to have grubby bits spoiling the show👍
You could use clear engine enamel - would leave the alloy look but protect the surface.
Sorry it’s been a while.
I think after sandblasting the part it gets tiny dents or pores open so all oil, petrol and grease will stick badly to the part.
Now we talking about engine where has so difficult access to wash and look after it so going extra mile for sake of calm mind painting and engine is the best option.
Regards clear coat of enamel paint didn’t knew about it and also couldn’t find as option to buy so missed it but that would have one of the options too.
I think it came out not to shabby huh??
Oh boy when holidays are over everything so slows down.
Balancing between Job Family and garage is soon difficult.
Well well well had a back injured no works been done for soo long but still managed to merge gearbox with an engine great achievement
You’re getting there! I use to restore Ducati singles back in the day. A lot of it I found quite tedious, but I always enjoyed stripping/inspecting/ rebuilding an engine. In those days my wife didn’t mine immaculate crankcases being heated in the oven prior to the bearings being knocked or dropping out. I did get a bit slack though. One time a shepherds pie did have a slight whiff of Gunk about it. Words were exchanged…
