Sounds unlikely mate, but I thought your no-claims discount was exactly that, yours, rather than the cars, ie if you haven’t had a claim for 5 years then surely both policies will be eligible for 5 years NC discount…
Hope that helps…

ye i knew that i couldnt use my no claims on both cars but i wasnt sure if i could split them as they are my no claims i was hoping to bring one insurance down (the mx5) by using some from my other car (currently a passat but reducing to a corsa/clio) its a bit annoying
Thanks for the advice
I have a 4 and an 8 year entitlement - I doubt that that could count as two 6’s. I also think that if I deplete one of them through a claim the other should be safe.
From what I understand, traditionally you were only allowed to use your no claims bonus on one vehicle and would need to build up a second set on the other vehicle. However over the past few years some insurers will mirror your no claims, most want you to hold both policies with them, although I have heard of some insurers mirroring a no claims bonus held with another insurer. It’s just a case of getting on the phone and going through them all and asking the question. There seems to be no hard and fast rules when it comes to insurance.
When I first became a 2-car man, A-Plan of Milton Keynes offered me a policy that mirrored the no-claims for the original car over to the second car, but only if both were insured with them, and I was the only driver. It was much cheaper to cancel my existing insurance at a cost and re-insure both, so I did.
Since then, I’ve moved both cars to different policies with different companies and both cars have retained the full no claims
N.B. A-Plan don’t do the original policy any more. In fact they are now expensive for MX5s and my Roadster is with Richard Eggar.
You need to find an insurer who will mirror the 5 years on to the other policy. Some will do that, that policy then starts to build its own no claims.
Or you insure the car as a classic in which case there is no “no claims” to worry about although I assume they still take into account as part of the assessment of risk. Classic with respect to an MX5 using Footman James is 5 years old and not 20 s it is for a lot of other cars.
Admiral will allow a no claims discount earned on 1 car to be used on a 2nd car on their Multicar policy.
I had full no claims on a Focus, when I got the MX5 they allowed me that Full no claims on the Focus plus 3 years on the MX5.
I’d have got 5 on the MX5 had I not had a claim 2 years previously for which I had Protected NCD cover so didn’t lose any originally.
