No sound from new radio

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2007 NC
  2. I’m based near: Bournemouth
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Fitting an aftermarket (touchscreen) stereo

Everything seems to be working as it should except there is no sound at all (not even static) which is quite important in a stereo I think. The one that came with the car is a 6 cd multichanger that says sound by bose although there is no amp behind the drivers seat, just a cubby hole. Is there another amp somewhere that needs to be powered and is not catered for in the replacement head unit wiring? When I reinstall the original unit there is no problem with the sound.
I’ve done some research on the net and youtube and they seem to suggest connecting the blue wire which I’ve done but still nothing…
Any ideas?
Many thanks, Steve

The amp is on the rear bulkhead - under the shelf where the soft top stows

You will have missed the connection that powers up the bose amp.
Pin 1J needs a 12v feed from the head unit to power up the amp.

The BLUE you have connected is pin 1H and powers the aerial amplifier

If your car has the Bose system you need a specific wiring harness to bypass the Bose amplifier. I believe Bose models have a speaker in the centre of the dash.

This would be the harness you would need, although as I do not have the Bose is recommend you wait for another member to confirm this before going ahead and purchasing it

Thanks so much for this. I shall give it a try and hopefully be able to get some sound at last. One quick question though; does the power to that cable need to come from the HU or can I just splice in a switched supply from the accessory cable?

Thanks again

Personally - I would use the switch wire from the head unit and split it to feed 1H and 1J
That way you know the amp is only live when the head unit is on.

On my ex Bose set up I spliced the blue/white cable to the blue cable to get the sound to work, power the amps. That was fitting a Pioneer HU.

A massive thank you to all those who responded. What a great forum and so glad I joined. Thanks to you I’ve finally got good sound by powering the pink/black wire (amp control) and now get to enjoy my mid life crises toy (my wife’s name for the car) to the fullest.

Hope I can return the favour one day peeps, thanks again.
