Good morning!
My 1.6 Eunos Roadster, 225000kms has developed quite noisy injectors it seems. It runs just fine and they can’t be heard once moving but at idle there’s a bit of a racket. Is it worth replacing them, or should I just leave them alone as it runs fine? (Dumping redex through the system worked for about one tank).
you can get injectors cleaned in an ultra sound bath - lucas ASNU program used to be about £60 for a set of 4 all cleaned with new seals and filter mesh .
Are you sure its injector and not Hydraulic lifter adjuster noise especially if only at idle?
Thanks for the tip.
Mechanic friend is certain it’s injectors and not lifters (I’m fairly certain it happens all the time, it’s just not that audible once you’re driving along). His Rover 25 makes all sorts of hilarious lifter noises.
Don’t think its injectors it is more likely to be the hydraulic tappets blip the throttle then listen if the noise is still there it will be the tappets.Thats some mileage it would be worth changing the injectors, check the cam shafts for wear, new cam belt and adjust the ignition timing whilst your at it.How is is the oil pressure or maybe you need a better grade of engine oil a good semi synthetic try www.castrol.com they will advise you what grade of castrol is the best for your car or www.opieoil.co.uk
Alan
I had the cam belt done last August, though I haven’t had the ignition timing adjusted beyond “normal”. The oil pressure sits at roughly 4 when cold, and merrily at just above 2 when warmed through. (Where it roughly stays put). I changed the oil just before Easter, putting in 10w-40 semi synth of the Mobil variety. It’s been a lot merrier since Sunday when I replaced the exhaust gasket.
If it is indeed tappets, is it just a case of “put up with it”? Unless I fancy expensive replacements? (Which clearly, I’d rather not).
if its HLA clatter you can use a cleaning additive , or change the oil to something a bit thinner at low temp I now use a synthetic gm specific 5w 30 oil ( gm have big problems with this and created oil specs to suit) its not expensive and does the job well.
Thanks folks, feeling a bit better about the options now
