Noob New Ride

Got meself my first and not so shiny MX5, a red going on salmon pink in parts (2-tone) 1990 1.6, fantastico:

MX5, red 1.6

It has a few dings (mods) but goes real well, feels solid. Bought it from forum member BG. He was really helpful and enthusiastic, cracking bloke. We went round everything.

What amuses me is that this was not the one I was looking for at all. I had in mind something a bit newer (couldn’t get much older), shiny (not matt) definitely not red (mid-life crisis colour), leather seats (cloth) and 1.8 (1.6).

But, having said that, what with all the choosing and umming-and-arring I did with all the classifieds, I always had in the back of my mind “if someone gave me one, any one, I would probably be really happy with it”. Well, this is the equivalent of that one, but paid for of course.

Think of it as provenance. A msg out on the forum that I’m in the market. Two responses. The first was too far away to persue as it was not ticking all the boxes (though good) and then this one much closer to home. It was like, “there it is, I don’t need to think about it or do any choosing (this one, that one, I can’t make my mind up), just go and see it”. To be honest, I fair knew I would buy it before I got there, description was good, but of course went through the whole dance, sorry BG but I think you knew anyway. So, its like I’ve started at the very beginning of the MX5.

By the way, loving the red. Also the ever so slightly rat look. Right now its sitting there all grubby and ready to go.

But, I have plans, it will be shiny.

Stuff to do in orderish:

  • Boots
  • Renovate paintwork. See how it goes but may do spray job later
  • Undersealing
  • Refurb wheels
  • Leather seats
  • ICE
This is it now...

Hi and welcome, I’ve not long got my first mx5 and loving it. Good luck with the rest. Oh I can recommend dynax S-50 for the underside. [(y)]

Hello and welcome.  Good luck with the list of jobs.  I’m sure you’ll find the work (and the car) very rewarding.  Not really the best time of year for working on cars, but hey, springs on the way, so crack on…!

First item on the list: Already got new boots ordered for fitment this weekend.
