Not just my first MX-5

It’s also my first car! Realising that I just couldn’t settle for a Corsa, I picked up my 2003 NB a couple of months ago. 48,000 miles, minimal rust, matching hard top, with an optional extra of filth. But, it was only £948.50 (I found £1.50 under the passenger seat).

I found this MX-5 Owners Club cap in the glove box and thought it could only be a good sign, and decided to join. With a bit of a clean, a bit meaning a lot, I reckon she came up alright. Glad to be a member and I can’t wait for summer!

Hi and welcome, looks like a good car you have there, don’t need summer for the top down we did a few hours top down with the heater full on in early March! planning to get a wind deflector for after lock down, hope you enjoy your first car.
Regards Dave

Cheers for the welcome guys. That sounds good to me Dave, I think i’ll grab a flying jacket as well just for the winter, it’s so much better with the top down!

Welcome, looking good, hope we can get out soon, meanwhile more cleaning and polishing. :yum:

Cheers Mick! Indeed, it’s the perfect time!

Nice, have lots of smile from ear to ear miles in your MX5. I know I do every time I drive mine.

Thanks Dave, I assumed my car was Midnight Blue when I made my account (hence the username) but then found that there are other similar colours! I looked inside the door but couldn’t see a paint code, would it be in the boot?

I don’t think there is a paint code on the car. Someone else might know different

Welcome, enjoy your new ride.

Paint code isn’t displayed on an MX-5 of that age. It may be written in the front of the service book. If not PM me your VIN and I’ll look it up for you.

Hi midnightbluenb.

Why wait for the summer weather for your enjoyment? Earlier this year I drove to Lincoln to see my daughter, with the roof down, but admittedly with a woolly hat and coat, and with the heater vents blowing from the dash. I could have had the heated seats on too, but decided I was not that desperate, even if I am well into my 60’s. When my daughter found it she said “Dad, it’s minus 2 deg!!!”

Yeah, but it was crisp air, and I enjoyed every minute of the journey. Hope you have as much fun with the NB.

Hi there Mike, that’s brilliant! Any excuse to have the top down. It’s a great drive down to Cleethorpes from Lincoln. Thank you, when I waved to another owner as I went past on the first day of owning the car I knew i’d made the right decision!

Nice choice for a first car, mine was an old Escort; but then I’m old too; all the best here’s to top-down motoring in the future

Yeah, when another MX5 driver waves back it is so satisfying. I like to believe we are one of a rare breed driving these brilliant cars.

Many, many years ago when I drove an MG Midget, everyone always seemed to wave in acknowledgement, so here’s to hoping MX5 folk do the same.

I have ridden bikes all my life and we have a 35 year old VW campervan, always waves and light flashing, except when riding in Europe where the bikers stick their foot out, it’s a nice thing and I hope MX5 owners are the same.
