Not sure if this is a first....real analogue centre console oil pressure

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __3.5
  2. I’m based near: __Brighton
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __

Have done a lot of research online and not found an analogue oil pressure gauge that would replace the false one in the mk 2 and 3. Decided to make one myself…

Post details plz

there’s this guy

if you just want pressure and to keep the OEM look you cut a few traces and reuse the OEM needle
The digital one is if you want oil temp too.

But I like what you have done. please let us know how you did it.

Errr…sandwich plate on filter, used remote earth as not happy with any local points. Used cheap mk 3.0 console as donor and test phase unit, also used dial card from 3.0 as looks better with the OPG. Modified dial card, card holder, control board, OPG, pointer, and base.

well if you reuse the OEM needle and looks what do you call that?

nicely done mate :+1:

Nice

Surprised you can cut so much out of the oem pcb on the clocks and it all still works.

Nothing cut out of oem pcb…original stepper motor for fake OPG removed.

Sorry if this is a daft question, but where does it read the actual oil pressure from?

Have you added an additional sensor, or is there something OEM to tap into?

Yes, added a oil pressure sensor on a sandwich plate

Curious why a sandwich plate was needed ?

Could you not just add a “T” to the oem oil pressure switch and put the pressure sensor there ?

Not having a go - just genuine curiosity

Sandwich plate with ports is more solidly engineered plus gives additional possibility for oil temp gauge.

Ah…see what you mean, but inbreality is far more difficult to do and to get to look good…yook a lot of r and d to get to this stage.

Well done mate, job well done , looks straight out the factory

those Sandwich plate things tend to come off loose… and you may create the problem you tried to prevent…
The NC Mazda oil pressure switch 1/4 NPT 18 teeth pitch male thread; I would make a hefty adapter for your pressure gauge and tap the temp sensor on the adapter.
NB If you do not use a turbo, you do not need oil temperature, even if you take the car on track (so the adapter would be a straightforward thing to mount the new pressure gauge).

Bought a quality one as the cheap ones have a bad rapp. Will keep an eye on it.
