I’ve cleared the code many times with my code reader but it just comes back after a few days, it even clears itself on occasions but returns eventually.
If you could make some enquiries for sourcing a new lambda to see if you can get a good deal would be great.
Hi Rhino. Sorry to butt in but iveI just purchased an mk3 and sorry to say i have code p0131 which is also the upstream sensor. The workshop have confirmed this but want nearly £600 for the diagnosis and replacement as they only have access to the genuine mazda part.
Therefore i have just sourced a Denso replacement for £130 and I’m going to fit it myself. The sensor shoudnt be too difficult to budge as the garage had the old one out during diagnosis a day or two ago. My intention is to jack the car from the front sub frame then support with stands and remove the os front wheel as this seems the best port of access.
Could you or anyone else please explain, where to go from there? I.e. does any part of the arch liner need to be removed. Best type of 22mm socket to use? Deep or crows foot’ tips on disconnecting the connector from the harness etc?
For what appears to be quite a common issue with these cars, there is very little out there on rectifying this on a mk3+
Haynes is pretty much next to useless and the mazda w/s manual just says ‘disconnect o2 sensor’ assuming you are removing ancillaries to replace/remove the exhaust manifold.
If you take the wheel off you will be able to get to the sensor without removing anything else. It’s best to use the correct heavy duty sensor socket to avoid damage to the wiring on the sensor. I got my local garage to change mine as I’d read many stories about them being seized in, but if yours has recently been out that shouldn’t be a problem. My garage charged me half an hour labour, so obviously not a big job for them.
Thank you for your response. That’s very helpful. Is this a common component to give up on these cars? Usually o2 sensors are pretty much bullet proof in other marques?
