just wondering what is the standard offset and stud pattern of a mk1? looking for some new wheels, what is the best size to go for? im assuming a 15" with lower profile would look slightly better but does it impact the ride?
also, want something that looks in suiting with the car, see a few peops on herehave some similar to mini lite’s etc, where do you get these from??
cheers
The stud pattern is 4 hole with a PCD of 100. The stock offsets varied between 40 and 45mm over the various different Mk1s and Mk2s; however offsets of 37, 38 and 39mm are also pretty common. I think the centerbore needs to be at least 54.1mm.
A 15" wheel is what I upgraded to on my MX5 and the lower profile seemed to make the ride a fraction harder but it really wasn’t significant. On the plus side the lower profile makes the car a bit more responsive and more importantly the selection of cheap high performance tyres is better in 15" sizes. I don’t know very much about Minilite wheels except that the Rota RB looks quite similar and is available in the right size for a MX5.
Right then!
Wheels for the MK1 are the 4x100 and you can get away with 6.5" to 8.0" wide wheels with an ET between 25 and 40
To be honest you really want an ET35 with a 7" wide wheel. It fills the arches nicely.
As for the minilight style wheel, you are looking for Rota RB’s like i sell and also have on my car. (PM if you are after some)

And here is the picture off the front cover of Banzai a few months back
While not disputing any of that, the original question was about standard offset: The wheels Mazda supplied on the Mk.1 have ET 45mm, and the early 7-spokes are only 5.5" wide.
