This sounds like a stupid query, but, for the first time since buying my car late last year, I have tried to remove my oil filler cap and it seems completely stuck. I am reluctant to apply too much force on it for fear of breaking the cam cover. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Straw grasping here. Have you tried to remove it after the engine is nice and hot?
…and using an oil filter gripper?
(It is an original plastic filler cap and not an aftermarket metal one?)
Thanks for your suggestions. It’s fixed!!. I used a very large adjustable spanner to loosen the cap.
