- My model of MX-5 is: __nd
- I’m based near: __
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: is the oil filter for the MK3 the same as the mk 4 only I’m struggling to find a OEM filter for my nd. even went to my local Mazda dealer they said they were out of stock which seems incredible how are they managing to do a service
Mx5parts show Mk3 and MK4 filters as fit only that generation so I’d go with that they are not interchangeable.
I’ve used K&N filers in the past on my Mk3, they have those for the Mk4 at Mx5parts👍

I can tell you the FE is the recommended one as I use and many others.
As recommended in the “Everyday Protection” Tab.
You can use both, but the XE seems more for the Exhaust Car Reduction systems.
Check out the Mobil Lube finder with your car details.

Both seem to make the same claims other than the X1 Fe carrying various Ford & Mercedes approvals

The FE is the one I’ve always used, probably for 7 years over a 2 NC ownership.
Just to add, the blurb reads, recommendations for Ford engines, the Duretec engine.
