- My model of MX-5 is: __NB
- I’m based near: __Swansea
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __oil leak
Noticed the front of the drivers side rocker cover has slight oil on in. Must be coming from what looks like a sensor casing. Any ideas what the correct name for the part is. I’ll try to attach photo. Cheers
Pictures really to show but sounding like you need a new cam cover gasket. Easy enough to do, buy a genuine Mazda gasket if so not a cheapo aftermarket in this case.
Thanks for the reply. Hopefully picture has appeared
Definately agree with previous posts in that the Cam Cover Gasket is likely to be the culprit and worth ruling out.
Also agree that you need to be sure to get a Genuine Mazda one, available via Andrew at Autolink and you also get a discount with Autolink, if you quote your membership number😉
Thankyou for the reply
I’m not so sure the cam cover gasket is the issue. That’s a car with VVT and the leak appears to be around the valve which allows oil in to the variable cam gear. Not having owned one I dont know what gaskets there are sealing that unit to the cam cover but it rather looks as if that’s the source.
You will need to get some gasket goo to put a dab or two as well, see the article in the link
Thankyou for your reply, hopefully someone will be able to tell me exactly what part I need
See Autolink about half way down the page. Give them a call and don’t forget to C laim your MX5OC discount, per Mal_Roland post above
Genuine gaskets from MX5PARTS if Autolink don’t have one.
I appreciate the advice, but am pretty sure Martin is spot on with his answer as the leak appears to be in the area of the vvt actuator
Clean it off with brake cleaner or white spirit or similar and wait till the little booger shows itself again.
Before you buy anything… but I’d wager one Scots Groat it’s a bit high up for the cam cover gasket.
The VVT is actuated, I believe, from pressured oil…along that pipe. So a little fail would show a weep.
I think…
Thanks for the tip
