Hi all i have been recomended ford motorcraft manual trans oil but £96 a litre is that a mistake? Has anyone bought cheaper? Thanks
On my 2007 2.0 i use Castol Syntrans Multivehicle 75w-90.
Box takes just over 2 ltrs so i needed 3 ltrs at about £15 a litre.
There are a few grades of Ford motocraft manual transmission oil. Exactly which one did you specify. The one recomended on various stateside forums is probably a special order at a silly price. Therefore the price may include carriage and import duty from the states
If you look at many posts on Miata.net opinions vary on which is best the Ford or Redline MT90 and in the UK, Castrol have a product called Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle that assists with the gearchage on the 6 speed boxes.
Both the Castrol and Redline product are available in the Uk at a reasonable price. There is no real difference in the performance of these two products and they do not cure all sticky gearchanges.
Exactly where did the recomendation come from.
thats just what I bought, but ordered 2 litre and not 3, so need another one for 6 speed box.
Thanks drumt #4 the recomendation was youtube and yes it comes from the states. I think i will go with something else

this in gearbox ( GL4 )

THIS IN DIFF ( GL5 )
Thanks bally3!!!
Do these recommendations apply to all MX5 models?
Best thing is to look in the relevant owner’s manual for the car.
My Mk2 owner’s manual states:
Transmission oil:
API Service GL-4 or GL-5 (SAE 75W-90).
Above 10 C API Service GL-4 or GL-5 (SAE 80W-90).
Rear differential oil:
GL-4 or GL-5.
Above -18 C SAE 90
Below -18 c SAE 80.
