  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __non starting
Hi, wondered if someone could help me.
I had a fuel pump issue with my japanese import nb 1.6 1998 mx5 automatic. A mobile mechanic sourced a complete used unit which meant car started ok once it was fitted but a few months later the next time i reconnected the battery and tried to start it (yes its not on the road!) it wouldnt start again. An auto electrician was called out as i thought it might have been an electrial fault but he says its the fuel pump again, so i replaced with a used unit , it still wont start
Auto electrician checked the immmobiliser, fuses, relays, checked that i have a spark… all ok
    battery fully charged
Camshaft Position / Cam Angle Sensor replaced.

Would anyone have any ideas please?

If there is a spark, it seems unlikely to have lost its timing just sitting there.
Ditto with compression - on all cylinders.
That, I think, leaves fuel.
Is fuel getting through?
Is the fuel “dead”?
Is it contaminated with rust from condensation in the tank?
Is there water in the fuel?

Change the fuel filter. It could be blocked with rust deposits. Also, can you hear the pump priming when you turn the ignition on?

Have you checked you earth paths, from engine etc,had issues with a car years ago, checked by good mechanics, and in the end found to be high resistance on a earth cable from engine, replaced and sorted problem
