I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Car Covers
Hi - a brand new member and happy to be here. I already have a cover for the hood which is OK but struggles in strong winds to a point I think it will take off. I’m looking for an outside waterproof / breathable full cover and would appreciate any recommendations / experiences. For instance I note that Car Cover Shop advertise in STHT but have no experience of their products. Any others recommended?
Many thanks in advance
Ian
Hi.
I agree that a full cover can do more harm than good. However perhaps a hood cover could be a reasonable option.
My previous car was a z4 and I bought a hood cover from Richbrook. It was top quality and cost £80. I used it when car was parked up when I was on holiday. On a security note I have a Disklok full steering wheel lock which cost £120 four years ago and is Police approved.
Just a thought and I agree a good wax is best.
If you do want a full cover, then Classic Additions do very good ones, they cost about £225 for the MX5. I have one for another car and it works well, I intend to buy one for the MX5 too.
Agree on all points - there are positives and negatives for covers.
I have a full and half cover from Classic Additons for other cars so would recommend them if you go down this route. They are not cheap but are better quality.
Another problem is when the inevitable debris gets under the cover with the wind the said debris will rub the paintwork on the car. As suggested one to cover the top of the car makes sense though.
I needed something tough for winter that didn’t flap around or trap moisture, and I ended up repurposing a klyoutdoor 5th Wheel RV Cover I had sitting in the garage. Bit of an odd fit at first, but with a few tie-down tweaks it’s solid. It’s thick, breathable, and doesn’t scratch the paint if the car’s clean. Might be overkill, but it’s been working better than the thin covers I tried before.
They can be great for some things. Brilliant even. I haven’t got one, but I’d imagine they’d be fantastic if placed on a totally clean car around late April if you’ve got Starlings nesting in yours or your neighbour’s property. And you haven’t got a garage or car port. So instead of say 500 poos over the 3 week period, etching acid into the paintwork, a full car cover would be a great answer. Imagine going to work and coming home to see 25 on the car, all sitting in the sun all day. Or a week’s holiday, and see 200 on there. Far worse on whatever issues a cover on a totally clean car would give.
