MX5parts sell a Genuine Mazda Soundboard that fits around the style bar.
I’m sure a few of you have them fitted. What’s your verdict - are they straight forward to fit/connect, is your rear view hindered and does the sound quality justify a £100 price tag? As I’m considering buying one.
I had one fitted in my Mk2, now sold. They only fit the genuine Mazda style bar, just so you are aware. No worries on restricted rear view, I never noticed to be honest.
It enhances the sound, sort of surround sound for the car I guess. They are not powerful speakers and are not intended to be. A bit like a normal saloon car were you balance sound front and rear to get a perfect setting to suit your needs.
I fitted mine coupled to a new head unit so I had all the wiring/dash stuff out anyway. I found it easy to fit and wire up, just buy the correct patch type lead which seem to have standard colour coded wiring for rear speaker setups, most new head units will already have the facility for rear speaker connections. Wiring passes easily under the centre console.
As for price, it’s not a bad reduced price, don’t think it’s worth the full RRP as stated. I won’t tell you how much I paid for mine, just say it was a bargain buy (new) off a member on here or maybe the other mx forum, can’t remember.
Sometimes Mx5parts have them on offer as an auction listing on ebay, so can be got cheaper, depends how the bidding goes and your ceiling bid of course.
