Paint chips on PRHT roof

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC3

Hi all, I have a Dolphin Grey NC3 PRHT and after a trip to the local hand car wash (yes I know ), I noticed a few spots on the top of the roof where the paint chipped off.

Before I order some genuine Mazda touch up paint, I wanted to check if I need anything else as the roof is made out of polycarbonate? I’m not looking to respray the PRHT yet but would also like to protect the roof where the paint has chipped.

I’ve seen a few posts on the net regarding lacquer peel or discolouration of the roof, but haven’t seen anyone with paint chips or using touch up paint hence this post.

Any help would be appreciated

Have a look at chipex touch up paints, looks ideal for your roof chips. I have recently bought a kit for my cars (different colours). Check out their videos on their site, i am pleased with the colour match on the first car, (not yet got round to my mx5 though but expect a good match)

Would you say that this is worth the premium over the genuine Mazda touch up paint?

I would say so because of the way the paint contains the lacquer is within their paint mix, and the way you blend the touch up with their “blending” solution. You don’t get the usual “lump” when applying with the brush in the genuine Mazda paint and no separately applied lacquer.
Check out a couple of youtube videos of applying chipex or some examples on their website.
Their kit comes with a decent microfibre towel.
