I have heard about a clear plastic film
that can be applied to the paintwork to prevent stone chips.
Has anyone used this kind of product,
and is it worth it?

If it’s the stuff that dealerships promote and costs £200 to £300 forget it, It’s not worth it.
I think this one is the plastic film rather than a polish type treatment.
I looked into this film for my partners RX-8 and decided the cost against the look of the car and the cost of having someone like ChipsAway deal with the chips every so often meant the film just was not worth it. Also when polishing the car white residue builds up at the edge of the film and can be a pain to clear or so I have read.
The film is great on new cars where paint can be soft and for owners who dont wax as often as others. It provides a real protection to the paint. Great for cars that might do a lot of milesliek oin the motorway I would think.

Thanks chaps.
It was the
sticky back plastic type film I was
thinking of.
theautostyler@hotmail.co.uk Try emailing this guy…met him at the spring rally last year…paint protection is what he does
Resurrecting an old thread… Anyone install this film themselves on a bumper? I’ve just got the car back from the paintshop, and I just know that M2-1001 bumper will chip like crazy (when I first got it, I paid extra to get it painted with a plasticiser, it still chipped). Its particularly bluff ended, and made in carbon/kevlar, which might be the reason its a little less compliant to flying debris. It tends to chip mostly on the lower half. I was wondering how compliant this stuff was around complex curves. Years ago, I put on stripes, and know what a pain that stuff was to put on the bumpers.
An older picture of the bumper, with old lights (I’ll get some more done sometime)
Are there any companies who will import this bumper for you? I’ve been on the manufacturers website but my japanese is’nt great.
