Painted Calipers and EBC YellowStuff Brake Pads

Painted with red Hammerite. New discs painted with black anti-rust paint in the middle.

EBC YellowStuff brake pads fitted. The caliper piston would not allow the pad backing shims to fit. So I’m going to wear the pads down a bit and then fit them.

In future I’m going to change either the pads or the discs on separate occasions as trying to change both at the same time is a very tight squeeze on my old car.

The yellow stuff pads I fitted this year didn’t come with separate shims. I recall that they have a metal backplate instead.

They don’t squeal so there’s no problem!

Sorry I meant backplates.seems to be working fine without them and looks better too.
Interesting to point out that the old pads didn’t have backplates on either.

Hi, Im thinking of painting mine did you remove the caliper’s and how many coats of paint did you apply.

scarby

Now where did I put my bag of fruit salads.??

I fitted new discs so I took the calipers off.

It was three coats of paint on the calipers.

I also painted the hub part of the discs with black anti rust spray paint.

When I do the fronts I’m going to try to paint the calipers without taking them off.

Here’s one important thing which I just learnt the hard way.

If you remove the calipers make sure you use some type of Loctite Threadlocker on the caliper bolts when you replace them or they will vibrate lose.

I hope nobody else notices!!

Personally I would just do them up tight enough that they will not work loose.

That’s not what the differential specialist said.

But it’s your car you do what you want.

I used a torque wrench and followed the OC recommendations.

You should probably be more concerned about the stability of your poor choice of paint  Hammerite will melt if it gets hot. The manufacturers themselves say it’s unsuitable for break calipers.
