I would like to paint my brake calipers so that they show up through the wheels. Can anyone suggest what paint to use please.
Thanks
Peter

halfords caliper paint at £9.99 is fine. It will take 3 or 4 coats to get full coverage, I did red on my twilight blue mk2, looks good…will try and post a pic tonight.
I use Smoothrite. You get a lot of people saying it won’t take the heat, But I painted my MX5’s callipers about 7 months ago and they’re still fine. In the past I’d used it to paint my old 2.1 Capri’s callipers and drums blue, It stayed on them for about 5 years till I got rid of the car. I used to boil the brake fluid in that pretty frequently but the Smoothrite stayed on (And put up a bloody good fight against the brake dust too [Y]).
One thing to note though, Once you’ve heated it up a few times, Smoothrite tends to go slightly darker. My originally “Fisher-price” yellow paint has gone a slightly warmer shade of yellow (Dulux would call it something like “Summer cornfield” I reckon [:P]), But if you really want to you can mix different colours to get whatever colour you want.
I used Hammerite on mine but you must be patient and do exactly as it says on the tin, and not take the car for a drive until at least 24 hours after you paint the second coat on. All the light colours in the picture, show where I used the hammerite and it has stopped all the rust that usually starts in these places.
Thanks for your rapid responses. This has given me the confidence to progress with this

Peter how did you get on with it? Post a pic
Im half finished 2 down with 2 to go hopefully finish them up tomorrow
Hows it going?. What make and colour of paint have you used? What preporation and problems have you encounted? and finally any tips?
Doing a full brake change and service tomorrow for a friend. Going to paint the calipers while they are off using the proper caliper paint kit. Will get some pic’s if i think on. Red calipers on a gold NB, should stand out through the gun metal 16" alloys on the car. Just hope the weather holds off again.

Edit: Spelling mistake
Hey Peter,
Looks really good though I need to give one another coat due to rushing it as it started to rain.
I used hammerite, smooth red which stands out really well. Just took a wire brush to it first and a bit of sand paper for any rough parts.
Would advise working on a cool day not too hot as brush began to fill up with paint and stick together. Also i ended up using a model paint brush with a wide head instead of the sort of one for the house.
Good Luck.
Did mine in same paint about 3 monts ago, super finish and still no peeling!
i might do mine with hammerite now that i have read this…anyone with brains would have done them when he did the pads and discs last month…doooooooooooh!!![:$]
