PAINTJOB BUMPER

  1. My model of MX-5 is: _NB
  2. I’m based near: __Derby
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __

My arctic ice mk2 got a few scratches on the bumper. Any recommendations how to repair it without going to a body shop? Thanks

Can you upload some photos showing the issue(s) ?

Also, how deep are the scratches - can you get a fingernail into them?

thanks for your message. one could get a small child’s fingernail in … Cheers, Wolf

Does any of the damage appear proud of the bumper when you run your hand over it? Or are those all marks into the bumper plastic itself? It’s quite hard to tell from that photo.

You may well be able to improve it (but perhaps not remove it entirely depending on the depth of the marks) by going over that area with a polisher - either DA (dual action) or a rotary. I’d probably need to see a better quality photo though

Thanks- simebofy in my family was reversing the car in the garage and hit a wall. The impact actually scraped into the plastic of the bumper and I hope this is visible from the photo. Being a complete novice, my idea was to sandpaper the area and then using paint from "paintnuts.com” based on my registration- the correct paint is showing up. Many thanks, Wolf

The top part of that damage looks right down to the bare black plastic, so deeply gouged or is it muck? The rest looks like it’s gouged into the lacquer coat or maybe undercoat.

It’s never going to look tidy touching up or rubbing down and spraying. Metallic paint finish is a difficult finish to match.

I know a good paint shop being Derby based.

Hiya- many thanks. My Mazda doesn’t even know how to spell the word “muck” . If you could give me the details of the paint shop, it would be much appreciated. Cheers, Wolf

Here…

They did me some repair/paint work and a neighbour too, very good job.

No obligation quote, I’m guessing it’ll probably be a whole bumper spray unless they can blend in that corner. Until you have talks, who knows?
