I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on paintwork chips
I’ve just had my Homura for one year, from new, at dealership for first service, we found three tiny chips on the hard roof paintwork.
Is that common?
And dealership says may not be covered in warranty?
I got a couple of stone chips in the first week of ownership and the dealer told me point blank it wasn’t covered. I expected the answer but it was worth an ask.
The paint is probably the thinnest I’ve experienced over many years of car ownership but it is by far the best looking.
Now wondering if Paint Protection Film is worth a punt, quite expensive and supposedly lasts 10yrs. Or maybe a few more layers of clear coat applied by a respray shop, for a permanent-ish solution, probably silly money?
Ya, I’ve had many new cars before, Fords, Jaguars, Fiats, Renault’s, Dacia’s, Suzies, agree this car has worst paint durability, dealer finally came back to recommend using paint pen to hide the chips.
Yup, PPF is expensive, not indestructable, but does offer a lot of protection. But particularly if the car’s a colour that’s very difficult to match (like the red or deep blue metalics) it may be worth it. Be wary that if you save costs by only having the most vulnerable areas PPFed, the finish between the PPFed and non PPFed panels will look a little different too.
At the other extreme, I decided not to PPF my Arctic White car. Easy to match and were it to get too bad, I’d simply get it resprayed.
