Parking on a hill... In the wet!

Sorry if this sounds daft, but as it’s chucking it down at the moment, I had a bit of a thought… I only have the soft top and park on a steep slope, so are there any words of wisdom on wether parking pointing up or down the slope increases the liklihood of water collecting/ingressing in to the cockpit?

I would guess pointing up preferable. I think the 2 rear drain pipes ,if clear, have a bigger capacity than the tubes in the door seals. Although, you would have to know what proportion of the rain falling on the roof is directed to those drains, it goes on the more you think about it !

 Disagree

Park nose downhill. It doesn’t take too much slope for the rainrail not to drain properly

Thanks guys, it’s not clear is it? I kind of assumed that when driving, the force of water would be to the rear, so that suggested “nose up” but as I live on a hill I always prefer to park pointing down the drive/ hill. Seen too many people get stuck on the first frosty morning when parked the facing up hill, plus you are stuffed if you need to bump start!

Wonder if I should have started an opinion poll!

 Note the bottom link on my postWink

Consider the fact that the car can travel at speed in rain with the rain streaming to the rear of the car as it would if parked pointing up hill, and is waterproof.

A controlled practical test could be tried with a hose pipe.

That way if any water does get in ,you will not have your ECU sat in water on the passenger side{#emotions_dlg.wink}

And you can also bump start in reverse .

M-m

Also you only have to bump start unreliable cars, so it shouldn’t be an issue. Certainly I haven’t bump started a car since I got rid of my last Citroen.

For those of us with the MK3, the drain for the water running off the boot lid is to the back so if you park pointing down hill a relatively large puddle will form under there.Sad

LoL! Have had to bump start a couple over the last two years! Hoping not to have to do it with the MX5!

  Very good point!

My Mk1 has spent hundreds of hours in the rain parked facing uphill on the sloping part of my driveway. No problems with water ingress into the cabin as long as the rain rail is intact and the drain holes are clear.
