Please note that entry to this event is now closed. If you aren’t on this list, you haven’t cleared security, and you won’t be able to get into the base. Sorry.
Because of our links with BIG C, Norfolk Fives have been invited to a private event at RAF Marham!
Their Families’ Day will be held on Thursday 23rd July - and the theme will be The Battle Of Britain.
There will be the usual ground based activities such as a Village Fete, Tug Of War, food and catering stalls, and one or two other car clubs. And a display of our own MX5s of course!
More importantly, there will be displays by:-
The Red Arrows
The Battle of Britain Flight
The RAF Chinook Display Team
The Typhoon & Spitfire Synchro Team
A Parachute Team
A civilian aerobatic team.
It’s understood that there will be an opening display by a GR4 Tornado.
If that’s not enough, there will be static displays of British and American aircraft.
So that’s a fantastic agenda that you can’t see unless you visit in your Five, with the Norfolk Fives!
Because this is a military base, everybody has to go through security checks. And to do that, we have to apply by the end of April. So I need your input by 29th April.
We have to submit for each person, the following information:-
Name, Address, Date of Birth, Place of Birth, Nationality, Driving Licence or Passport number.
Please PM the information to me - there’s a button at the bottom of the page. When I have your information, I will add you to the list. If you can’t use this forum, then you can send me the information through Facebook. If your name hasn’t appeared on this list within 48 hours, try again.
As we will have to be on site by 0800, we will meet at Sainsbury’s Longwater to leave at 0700, picking up at Waitrose, Swaffham at 0730.
This private air show is free, but it’s also about raising money for our 2015 charity - BIG C. So I’m suggesting that every car contributes a sterling note of your choice. The bigger the better!

Update - 11th June 2015
I have just had some more information, as follows:-
1. Arrival will be later than expected! We will meet at Longwater for an 0830 departure, picking up at Swafffham.
2. The flying display starts at 1200, and will continue until 1630. We can leave at anytime, but we are encouraged to stay to the end. Feel free to bring picnic chairs, tables etc. We will have a gazebo.
3. The classic cars will be positioned a short walk from the flying display line, so once the display starts we can set up camp closer to the crowd line. Dogs, unfortunately, are not allowed. Photography is.
4. All of the details have been submitted for security, and so far there is no bad news. We can assume that we are all clear.
5. There will be more comprehensive details in the next couple of weeks.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Latest news
Here are the final, confirmed details for the day:-
ARRIVAL TIME
At Longwater - please arrive by 0815 for an 0830 departure. We will meet at the usual place by the recycling bins.
At Swaffham - there is a lay-by on the westbound A47, shortly after the ‘on’ ramp from Lynn Road (not the A1065 junction). The lay-by has an orange SOS phone box. I’m expecting to see Kevin & Simon, Michael & Lesley, Ian & Jennifer, and David & Kirsty here. Please confirm. I expect that we will be there at around 0910, and won’t be stopping! P.S. In case that lay-by is occupied, there are one or two other lay-bys westbound between MacDonalds and the A1122, so which one you pick doesn’t really matter. If you miss them all, use the entrance to Swaffham Raceway.
WHAT TO BRING
- Some form of photoID. A passport is ideal. If you are on the list above, you have security clearance.
- Picnic tables and chairs etc, and whatever food / drink you need. There will be food stalls and a bar if you run out. We will have the gazebo.
- Umbrella.
- Dogs are permitted, however, they must be kept under control.
- Photography is permitted.
- Smoking in designated areas only.
- Air Band receivers are permitted.
- The flying is planned to start at 1200 and carry on until 1630. As well as an RAF contribution including the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and a Typhoon / Spitfire synchro pair display, there will be displays from various civilian owned aircraft (including a Canberra PR9 and 3 Gnats) and also participation from the USAF including a V22 Osprey.
- We will be parked away from the flight line, so we are advised that it is probably worth moving to the flight line by 1130 to get the best view of the display. The line is about a 5 minute walk from where we are parked.
- There will be lots of food, drink, charity and other stalls as well as displays from some of the sections at Marham and also from RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath. There are about 2,000 people stationed at Marham - this will be a very well attended day!
- We are organising this event to raise more money for BIG-C. Because of our connections, we are able to attend what is, in effect, a private air show. To that end, I'm hoping for some big contributions from everyone. Please put a large sterling note in an envelope, and I'll collect it on the day.
- Please confirm that you will be attending.
- Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know.
