Peaks and Pennines July update

July update

Our July Social Meeting is this Thursday (7th) at The Rockingham Arms Wentworth S62 7TL. The meeting starts at 8:15, a lot of members arrive from 6:30 onwards and sample the pubs excellent value for money food. The club has exclusive use of the restaurant for its meetings.

The joint run on 3rd with North East Midlands has been temporally cancelled, it will now take place later in the year, date to be advised.

The July 10th Sunday run is to Batemans Brewery in Wainfleet All Saints, the starting point is The Stock Yard  Hellaby, meeting at 9:30 or earlier if you are having a buttie, leaving at 10:00 (BLT) The route is on little used side roads to Dunham Toll Bridge, then turning briefly north onto a Roman Road, we will call into a garden centre for a coffee stop before skirting around Lincoln. Then it is on to the brewery visitors centre via Wragby, Horncastle and Spilsby.

The full details will be finalised when Lesley and I research the brewery this  Sunday, basically they have given us various options, carvery, brewery tour, commemorative bottled beer, with our own Peaks and Pennines label, all for £11.50 per head, or any one of the above on its own. Several members are thinking of booking into a local B&B so the various brews on offer can be properly assessed.

The August 7th run is around Derbyshire finishing up at Wentworth Woodhouse allowing those members  who were unable to leave their marshalling duties at the Spring Rally and new members an opportunity to tour the house. Over 30 members have booked so far.

The September 4th Sunday run will be around Derbyshire mainly on the roads used when Peaks and Pennines hosted the National Rally in 2010.

And looking to the future –

(Assuming it is still there), a run to Middlesbrough to cross the River Tees on the Transporter Bridge is being put together, the gondola holds 9 cars on each crossing, it will be a fabulous photo opportunity, the Visitor Experience centre will be available to us,  (by special request) on the way back we will check out the number of pieces of scampi and the rest of the menu served at the Feversham Arms, Church Houses.

The MX-5 Owners Clubs  National Rally is at Donington Park on October 2nd

There will be a York overnighter in late October, early November

Keith Saltmarsh is organising the clubs Christmas Dinner Dance at The Holiday Inn, Warmsworth, Doncaster, they hosted the clubs Dinner Dance before the Spring Rally, favourable comments were made about the location and the meal. Keith has negotiated a very good deal for us. There are a few places left, cross Keith’s palm promptly with a £10.00 per person deposit if you wish to go.

For those who are not into Dinner Dances a basic Christmas ‘do’, more of a party, will take place at The Rockingham Arms on Wednesday December 7th.

Trevor Walker is in the throws of organising the very popular North Wales weekend run, provisionally on 25/26 March 2017.
