Pedders Suspension - is it any good?

Searched on the forum, but can’t find any mention…

Is this a good purchase? https://www.mx5heaven.co.uk/product/mazda-mx5-mk1-shock-absorbers-springs-bumpstops-rear-pair/

Claims to be manufactured by Pedders - but I can’t find any reviews.

Don’t want any fancy adjustable stuff, just something that’s like the original, but cheaper than buying Mazda Genuine

Hopefully this will cure knocking from rear left corner.

Thanks,

Will.

Someone has to be the first. Pedders has established a UK office. There are some old references on Miataforum, indicating they use stiff springs. Pedders history is based on adapting imported suspension parts to suit Australian conditions. Their springs are certainly Australian made, but less certain if they make the shocks themselves, or have them outsourced to their spec. I would ask MX5heaven for some specs on the springs (ratings). If they don’t know that, then their statement “Very high quality aftermarket shock absorber” really doesn’t mean anything. They are cheap though.

I read something about Pedder suspension some considerable time ago. When mk1’s were my cars of choice. Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me, remember what I read other than it was about Pedder  Indicative of my powers of recollection sadly. However, if I owned a mk1 now and just wanted OEM style replacement shocks/springs/bumpstops on a budget, to replace aging coilovers suffering from rust/misting/weak or broken springs/worn out bushings/split or non existent bumpstops (read any combination of the aforementioned) then they appear to be worth a punt purely for the reasons stated. I have zero knowledge of suspension units by the way.

Will,

For what this is worth, I’ve just had the entire chassis of my own Mk1 re-engineered. I know my car, had it 16 years.

I was “epically ignorant” about coil-overs, but after a lot of homework, and budget awareness, I took a chance and plumped for the Koni SRT ( non adjustable) Street Kit.

Sensible ride hight for my tastes, which was a big part of the cake mix.

I had a long chat with Larkspeed who were very helpful ( not to mention one of the cheapest) and suffice to say the coil-overs have transformed the driving experience.

Meister, Tein etc were desirable but out of budget.

Mind you, everything else is new or refurbed underneath. I cannot comment on longevity or such things…it’s only a month on but I test drove it through some hard local twisties to be greeted with zero roll, decent compliance, and in general very near to the chassis feel of out Mk2.5 Sport.

Time will tell, but amazed so far.

Personally, I think it was a wise decision to go with Koni over Meister.

Very influential; the last article had a huge influence on Performance5 when selecting spring rates. Note the difference between front and rear.
