They were useless for me car had to be in a garage
I’ve just reread the article in STHT and can see no mention of no claims bonus. Are you saying PJ now does no claims discount? If so it’s unusual for a classic car policy or is it just if you insure your daily with them?

You’ll find more details on the offer in the October 2024 edition page 18, which can be read via the back issues https://mx5oc.co.uk/soft-top-hardtop/
The Club’s insurance scheme is tailored for MX-5s of all ages and built for owner enthusiasts to enjoy their cars alongside Club membership, it is not a Classic car policy per say, and a lot of work was put in to build a policy for members with lots of additional inclusive benefits. The maximum of which are tapered towards NA and NBs as they are the models that require the most love to keep them on the road, but includes NC and ND cover and in fact NC policy numbers are roughly in line with NA policies.
After 1 year of the scheme in effect, just under 10% of the Club’s membership have taken cover through it, we continue to work to improve it with the underwriters and every bit of feedback is taken into the quarterly planing conversations, to try to continue to make the scheme the best option it can be for all MX-5 owners, young and old (people and cars).
Its a shame that people in the 50’s with oodles of accident free claims, garaged, extremely good postcode, no points, cant take the benefit for a 3000 PA policy for leisure use only. I will shop around, but currently I cant justify a rise from £230 pa to £500 and something to be part of the 10%
My multi car policy renewal came today.45% increase!that’s the mx5 nd and a Renault captur (2021). Rang them to try move it down a bit,no chance. £251 for the nd and £268 for the captur.well under a £1 per day. I did think last year’s premium was ridiculously low.
Just had the renewal for the ND and not much different to last year. Insurance is just numbers in a hat.
Just to update my latest post.I have just been on another multi car policy provider, all details the same .£936……aargh.think I’ll stay where Iam thanks.
I’d consider that a pretty good price for each car, 1 year ago my NC and the daily driver was quoted £600 for both. Just recently had a quote for another NC @£231, so not bad me thinks.
Still only have the one car ATM, no MX-5, that was around £340 paid last November.
You may find getting separate quotes for each car better than a multi car policy, I’ve gone separate policies now including home insurance, previously all lumped together with one company.
Hi Justin,
agree and this does not seem in line with other experiences, if you are happy for me to investigate and contact the team with your details, they will be able to look into the circumstance further? and I can report back? As I said we are continuing to try to make improvements on the scheme and raising issues like this when they crop up, helps to make that happen.
Well spoken to Adrian Flux, just now. Policy is ok at £276.00 , sort of, but make sure you are sitting with no sharp implements close by…£900 excess
Into Howdens (a plan) I head after my MOT scenario on Saturday.
Hi.
Was that just a quotation or have you taken out the policy?
We do offer the option of an additional excess protect product which can help were there is larger than average policy excess.
Regards,
Dan.
I earlier posted that my premium had increased by approx 45%.called insurers,no movement.found another deal at £65 less.called existing company and they recalculated.
More mileage on each car, less excess £250 on each car.new price.£136 less than renewal quote.
So that’s £415 for mx5 and the nearly new Renault captur.increase of £30 over last year’s premium.
Hi Dan, I called your place earlier today. There is no way on this earth I would take a policy out for 900 excess. I said to your colleague to stop right there after he said the cost of the excess. It’s an MX5 not a Lamborghini .
I am 54 not 21 . Seems common policy to ramp up the excess these days and I did mention this to him before I was dealt the fatal blow.
I will be on your system but I have paid £200 plus £250 excess on a Z4 Coupe with a fixed value that was more than the MX5 at A Plan as it was then and my Westfield with double the mx5 value with shed loads more power was about the same ball park figure.
Edited…
Since I am old and wife is older. Just tried Saga and £249 pa ( but more monthly) plus £350 excess which is £150 me and £200 compulsory and advising on mods as well. Seemed easy to navigate for us oldies as well unlike other websites hence why I called Flux earlier.
Well, the irony is that I received , overnight the renewal from Aviva. And it’s gone down from last year. So unless one of our advertiser’s can beat £220 and £250 excess , then I will stick with Aviva.
Personally, I don’t need salvage or add ons. If a car is badly damaged, it can go and be drink cans.
I may venture into Howdens for a laugh and can report back though.
When they were A-Plan my house was insured through them for maybe twenty years, but when Howdens took over their quote more than tripled, from about 600 (near a flood risk) to 2100. Howdens obviously didn’t want my business.
So I looked around, including the existing insurer, Aviva. Talking to them directly, Aviva was cheapest and quoted about 600 (I was very surprised) and are still the same this year. When they were Norwich Union they were the first insurer we had for this house, but subsequently by no means the only one!
A-Plan always offered to quote for my car when I called in to pay for the house cover, but they always wanted £40 more than I was paying for the exact same car cover, it was their commission. That was significant when I was only paying 180 to 200.
Aviva have been the best price for my 2 Fords and the MX this year, so they have my business
I’ve got car insurance with Aviva Zero this time, Admiral were way out of the reckoning. I didn’t even give them the chance to recalculate my renewal price, past experience they don’t budge much on price.
I found the club’s insurance scheme with Peter James Insurance very helpful this week when I phoned them to add my son onto our MX5 insurance policy.
“Son and heir” is turning 25 soon, a magic age in the world of car insurance. Adding him to our existing MX5 owners club insurance policy only cost £41 … and £20 of that was the admin fee for making the change! Very happy with their pricing, and their level of customer service (very friendly and helpful to deal with)
Decision made that I have now paid the Aviva renewal premium. I really wonder where these insurance companies get this excess values from. It does seem to be common practice in the last few years to make your excess cost be dwarfed by their compulsory costs. I have accepted a £250 excess on my side and Aviva has the compulsory at Zero !! Policy includes courtesy car, windscreen, legal to name a few for a premium I think is sensible.
I still believe policy costs are like numbers in hats, so although my want was to look at the club insurers to ‘do my bit’ It does seem there is still work on this to be competitive to the mainstream companies.
The concept of owners club insurance is great. however, after speaking to them on the phone, they said the car has to be garaged to take out a policy!! Which is quite odd as it’s no Ferrari. Never been asked that by another insurer
