Pioneer AVH-A240DAB

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __mark 2.5
  2. I’m based near: __chester
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: _in-car stereos

I have just installed the above unit into my vehicle and struggling to get Google maps to work and ‘beam’ itself onto the head unit’s display. Would be grateful for any pointers as to how to get this to work. Thank you.

Have a look in your phone settings (Google maps) presume you are Android auto or carplay. You can set maps to WiFi only (need it off) or look to see if Android auto shows in location services in maps.
I don’t use Google maps much, I mainly use Waze. Both work ok but I remember when setting up for the first time I had a few glitches, wouldn’t work fiddled around and all ok now.

Thank you MickAP for your initial response. I use a Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) and so it’s android. I do use Google maps as my first choice. Had not heard of Waze until buying this head unit! Not sure what you mean when you say ‘You can set maps to WiFi only (need it off)’. Do I go into Settings>Apps>Maps?

I have had a quick surf, and am not sure this unit supports Android Auto. (With Android Auto, connecting via the cable allows the head unit to use the phone for satnav, Amazon music, BBC sounds etc).

The blurb for the Pioneer AVH-A240DAB states it can connect to a compatible Android phone and allow you to mirror the phone screen - which is different, but should work for you. No idea how to make this happen, or if your phone is compatible.

You may need to down load an app to let this happen. Pioneer WebLink is supported on this head unit, so I would install this on your phone from the Playstore and just connect up and see what happens. You may need to launch WebLink on the phone manually the first time, but pretty sure there is an option to turn on automatically.
I think you will yhen have a WebLink screen available on the head unit and this gives you compatibe apps from your phone on the head unit. This will include Google Maps as well as some other apps.

I had weblink running on my phone and DH250DAB very easily, but as my head is Android Auto compatible never bothered playing with it.

Yes I think the weblink app is the answer, didn’t know it wasn’t AA or Carplay compatible.:+1:

A local audio expert has advised me that the AVH-A240, being regarded as kind of entry level, does not support Android Auto or Apple Carplay! I understand there are a good number of older Pioneer models that do still support Android Auto but a lot go back 4 or 5 years and are very difficult to find for sale. I do not want to pay big money (i.e. around £600+) when I could settle with the A240 and just use a decent satnav - if we need to - when we are tripping out.
