Pipercross air filter and Cobra road exhaust rear box combination

Hi All, I have a 2.0 sport PRHT 2008 and want a gain in performance at minimal budget;

By fitting a Pipercross air filter and Cobra road exhaust rear box will this give any noticeable performance gain?

Also I am thinking of getting a remap would the above mods be worth doing prior to a remap , map-tech has quoted £200 for a remap.

I would appreciate any guidance or thoughts you may have

Thanks

Derek

The back box will just make more noise which might make it feel faster.

I have tried a Pipercross filter but couldn’t tell the difference.

From what I have read about MX5 tuning there is no cheap way to getting more performance.

I have the Pipercross filter and Cobra backbox fitted to my NC, and I’d be lying if I said I felt any noticeable difference.

I’m sure there’s a perceived improvement which is down to the extra noise (which does sound pretty good IMO), but even with a remap I’d suggest you’d struggle to see more than a 5-8bhp improvement, which in reality would probably be at the upper end of the rev range.

This is personal opinion based on other N/A remaps I’ve seen though, so I could be way off the mark.

Hello

Check out Roddison MX5 Specialists 0870 600 8787 www.mx5-racing.co.uk.

Paul’s 180/185 BHP system together with Clive Bussey Autotronix  01909 561119

ECU re-map will definitely improve torque/bhp & throttle response.

The O/E exhaust manifold/cat really need replacing to achieve any appreciable gains.

Keith

What Keith says, you really do need to replace the manifold with the cat in to see the best results. It’s very restrictive as it is, I replaced mine with a Racing Beat one from Paul (Roddisons) along with the air filter and Cobra back box and remap from Clive.

The car is a totally different drive now with a very healthy increase in power.
