Pipercross Induction Kit

 Help!!!

I’ve just picked up a Pipercross Induction Kit (PK107) & unfortunately it hasn’t come with any instructions for fitting. I’ve fitted it without the instructions but the filter cone is loose under the heat shield. Is this right??? I think it will rattle / knock when going over bumps but in fairness I’ve taken it out for a drive & it isn’t too bad. I’ve looked at the feedback on the MX5 Parts website which indicates that the instructions (when provided!!) are a weak point however there is also a mention to a fixing between the jubilee clip & the bracket which I haven’t got.

Any advice / pics / help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance…

Hi Colsspec,

What mk of MX5 is this for Cols? I may have the instructions for my Pipercross kit in the garage still, mine was for a Mk2.5 when I fitted it.

Also, you could try getting in touch with Pipercross directly. I’m sure they would be willing to help you out. Turns out they are right around the corner from me (Brackmills Northampton).  http://www.pipercross.net/fastroad/contact.asp

 Hi Modey,

Cheers for the reply! It’s for a mk1 Eunos so I don’t know if your instructions would be the same…

I phoned Pipercross & I’ve got to say that they have been really helpful. They have emailed me the instructions & are also sending me the parts that are missing from the fitting kit free of charge - can’t fault that!!! [Y]

When I fitted the kit before it sounded like a muted hairdryer on idle! Is that how they are supposed to sound?

I’m glad Pipercross have been helpful. As for the induction sound, it made the car sound really sporty when you were under hard revs. Big difference to the normal sound of the engine anyway. It didn’t sound anything like a hair dryer.

 Hi Guys,

Just gad a pipercross fitted to my merlot. It now sounds great on the push. It has made the throttle more responsive and given me extra power. Awesome bit of kit.

Jim.

Sorry to hijack but just wondered if you ever did get your filter fitted securely?! Am having all sorts of trouble getting the metal cone to fit securely around the MAF housing using the jubilee clip and plastic mounting bracket provided. When i tighten the jubilee clip, the small plastic bracket that is threaded through the clip to sit underneath the cone/MAF (that then bolts to the rectangular bit of metal  - that in turn then bolts to the engine bay) seems to get in the way and either forces the cone away from the MAF housing or even worse, when i’m really persistent and hold everything in place, begins to dent the metal cone as i tighten the jubilee clip - but still doesnt make things tight enough to prevent the cone sliding away from the  MAF housing!

Will try calling Pipercross on Monday, but if you or anyonelse has got any ideas it would be much appreciated! Have got my car in bits in the garage and am desperate to drive it seeing as it looks like we’ve got a good weekend of weather!

cheers

tim

Hi,

I got mine fitted ok after getting the right fittings & instructions from Pipercross.

Post some pics up so I can see what you mean.

From memory it did ‘pinch’ the metal of the cone a little, but I think that the jubilee clip goes over the rubber of the MAF housing & the metal of the cone pushes into the rubber of the MAF housing. Hope that makes sense…

thanks for the tip - just cant see how the cone fits over the maf with the rubber seal in place, its too tight! am a bit new to this posting thing so pictures are a bit of a challenge but give me a little while and i’ll try to post some up of the problem. i think the main problem is that the cone bit from the filter itself is cone-shaped (!) - thats why when i tighten the clip it pushes itself off. if the cone from the filter was more of a tube/cylinder - like it appears to be in the generic picture in the website ad - i would have no problems at all.
