and would welcome advice on what spares to take for my Mk1…apart form towing a spare car!
Bulbs and belts should do you, plus some oil. As long as you have checked everything out before you go you should be OK, but do have European breakdown cover.
Many thanks…do you recommend a particular Euro breakdown cover?
I have RAC, but guess you could shop around.
If you have never driven abroad ,Google ;Brittany-Internet Driving in France, advice and legal requirements, essential information.
You will need to take the following:-
Hi vis jackets for each passenger (keep these inside the car)
Spare bulb kit.
Warning triangle.
First aid kit.
Fire extinguisher.
and of course headlight deflectors.
Also make sure your tyres are lega l( I know that’s a given, but the French police love nicking us brits, watch your speed on the toll roads, they can work out your average speed between tolls, the tickets have a time stamp on them)
It’s also prudent to drive on the right. Enjoy your holiday
You don’t legally need a first aid kit or fire extinguisher (though I do think these are a good idea if you are doing big mileage) but the high vis, warning triangle, headlight deflectors and bulbs are a legal requirement.
Jack.
Great advice and many thanks to everyone who has helped…lots to do now…
Does the MX5OC have a deal with or have a preferred Euro beakdown cover company? Many don’t like old cars…such as ours…old at 22…imagine!
If you are insured through the Club scheme with Footman James you will find that European breakdown cover is included with your policy. (check though, don’t just take my word for it!)
Winner! Thanks Martin. It was on my list to check with them…but yet again MX5OC membership pays off. Thank-you
Re head lamp deflectors - i found that insultation tape strategically placed works to stop glare at oncoming vehicles
Oh and a smattering of french goes a long way to appeasing the locals
CHEERS… WILL WAVE TO YOU NEXT TIME I’M IN POWYS!
Wise words. Many thanks.
