Playing Music through Bluetooth

Hi all,

Is it possible to play spotify through bluetooth and control the tracks with the car instead of the phone ?..I can currently play it through the 3mm jack but you have to control it through the phone which i dont want to do.

Have seen a couple of things on ebay but anyone actually using one and can vouch it works ?

car is Sport Tech 3.5

Thanks

Hi there - As far as I know the bluetooth in the MK3.5 is pretty basic and intended for hands free operation of phones ( crazy idea - who wants to talk and drive an MX5 ?). I found a real cheap solution for music which works for me, simple and effective with good quality sound. It allows selection of previous or next track without touching phone or mp3 player. Nice fit in the mk3.5 as power socket is right next to 3.5 aux. Got to be worth a look at under a tenner !

Thanks Colin, so do you only need the 3.5mm jack lead to charge and stream the music, do you not use the USB on the front ?

and how big is the item, does it fit in the aperture OK ?

I bought a bluetooth receiver which plays via the 3.5mm input - less than £20 from Amazon and works really well. So much so, that I’ve abandoned the idea of getting a new head unit. I can’t post link, but it’s called the iclever himbox bh01

Depending on which radio unit you have there would need to be some interface between this and the phone.

I’d suggest that this sort of technology started to appear around 2008,  becoming more common around 2012 and has only really been widespread since about 2015 (ish)

You can’t charge your phone on a 3.5mm jack, the jack is for audio output only. On the device Colin suggested, the jack cable would fit to your car aux socket.

The phone would connect to this device via BT.

If you wanted to charge your phone at the same time, you would need to connect your phones charging cable to that usb socket.

I think colin is suggesting, whilst there would be no direct connection between your phone and head unit, that little gadget sits in your Cigarette lighter port, which is handy to get to, and technically hands free. You may be able to control spoitify through that, althogh this would need to be confirmed by someone who has one.

The only real solution would be a hew head unit which has this functionality built in.

Thanks for all responses, sees there is lots of choice !
