I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: playing music via my iphone.__
Evening all. have recently purchased my car and haven’t set up the phone availability.
My question is once I set up the phone does that mean that I can also listen to the music on my iPhone through the same system. Sorry if this sounds a stupid question but I am not really all that techy. Thanks Dave.
Assuming you have Bluetooth phone and music connectivity available on your head unit then yes, absolutely What usually happens on most devices, is that whatever media you are playing from I.e. radio/iPod/iPhone/Aux etc, if you’re hooked up for incoming calls, the unit will prioritise any call that comes in and will cut the music until after the call is either answered or dismissed, then the music will automatically continue as before. Hope this helps!
Further to my last, I just realised you might be thinking you can play music through the ‘phone’ connection in which case the answer would be no. If you’re looking at the control panel, you should have distinct options for connecting to music and phone. Earlier head units typically did not have music Bluetooth connectivity, only phone. If you’ve connected as a ‘phone’, you won’t be able to play through that connection, if that makes sense? In other words, it will only work as a phone, you can’t put music through that connection. Modern head units will do both
I have a gizmo that plugs into the power socket.
It takes the Bluetooth from the phone and inputs to the head unit via the aux in socket, thus enabling you to stream music, satnav or phone calls from your phone.
It also has a power out USB socket to enable it to power your phone.
Sound quality is excellent and about 15 quid
The listing seems to suggest you can, I’m really hoping that’s true! I had been looking at using 2 cables for my phone; 1 to charge it, and another to connect it to the car Aux input.
You can get a Mazda iPod integration cable. I have one on my 2010 with the Bose head unit. It connects somewhere in the back of the unit. I can get you the part number if you wish but it was not cheap if I recall.
It provides an iPhone 4 connector in the glove box and the aux button can then be toggled between the jack plug and the iPod connector.
You can then scroll through all the normal Apple Music folder options on the head unit using the various buttons. I have also connected my iPhone 6 to it using a genuine apple 4 to lightening connector adapter. (Cheap ones may only just do the charging).
I have not tried it with my newer iPhone as I tend to leave an old iPod in there.
It gives both charging and playback functionality as a nice integrated feature but it is quite clunky to use due to different folder levels being accessed by different buttons.
(Rotate for artist album genre etc. Ffwd Frew for folders and up down arrows for track selection).
It seems an age behind the systems I had even in my old 2008 Volvo C30, a bit like the cruddy voice operated Bluetooth phone connection.
Can’t see how that’s possible, unless the cable splits into two somehow, with one part going from lightning conductor socket to aux in and the other half going to the power socket.
I have something similar to that in my BeeEmm to power and connect an old ipod but this cable looks like a simple lightning socket to aux in to me, which would provide no power.
