Hi everyone, Picked up My 04 NB 2.5 yesterday, drove absolutely fine for two hours of motorway driving until suddenly started losing throttle response and completely lost revs. Limped it off the motorway and then couldn’t get it started again, was turning over for a couple seconds then stalling itself and couldn’t get it going. OBD II diagnostic said PO420. I woke up this morning and started it just out of curiosity and it started fine! Blew out some white smoke then Idled normally at 1500 revs. Completely stumped as had to have it towed yesterday but now able to drive around the block smoothly. Has anyone got any advice? All i can think is a sensor of some kind however i don’t know the car well enough yet to start messing. is it worth taking to the garage to have a look over and see what could have caused it? nit sure on risking it as i’ve got a couple of long distance drives to do next couple of weeks. Thank you🙏
P0420 could be an o2 sensor issue.
Yeah thought it could be that. Would it cause cat to completely lose power though? what’s the best fix? Thanks
This is probably the pre cat O2 sensor and can cause all sorts of problems.
If you use the search function you should find a number of previous posts and solutions if this is the cause of the OBD code.
I’ve ran a bottle of CAT cleaner through the engine and engine management went off and it’s running lovely🤣 was much easier than expected, think because it’s been on SORN it’s all got a bit clogged, just needed a strepsil and a cough
