- My model of MX-5 is: __2010 NC2
- I’m based near: __
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: 16" wheels
Kinda pee’d off with constantly swerving pot holes on our disgraceful road network, miss one hole clip another etc…
Thinking of changing to 16’s, I’ve done some googling etc can’t find a definitive answer.
I’m looking at some 16x6.5 et 38 would these fit and what would be the best tyre size to go for?
Many thanks all
This would suggest 205/50R16 is very close to 205/45R17

Thank you, would a set of 6.5 wheels alter the handling much compared to a 7".
If only we had roads that were repaired and maintained correctly…all the marks on my wheels have been from pot holes
Are you on stock suspension? The roads round my way are seriously potholed and I’m on coilovers but the 215/45’s soak them up fairly well.
JaysNC runs 16x7 on his car and they look pretty good imo.

It was lowered before I bought it using Eibachs and stock shocks, the ride isn’t harsh that I’m frustrated with.
Every mark on the outer edge of my refurbished wheels has come from hitting potholes I don’t drive erratically but they’re sometimes unavoidable if a car is coming the other way. Went through the Peak district last week and some holes were the width of the road!

I know what you mean. I avoid some of the more rural rat runs because of that. It’s more having to pull in allowing passing space that risks falling into some gigantic holes that could do some serious damage.

These are the recommended tyre sizes for each rim.
Rim |Minimum |Ideal widths
6.0 Inches |175 mm |185 or 195 mm|
6.5 Inches |185 mm |195 or 205 mm|
7.0 Inches |195 mm |205 or 215 mm|
7.5 Inches |205 mm |215 or 225 mm|
Typically - A 205 on a 7" will feel more direct compared to the 205 on a 6.5"
