Potential new owner questions

I am serously considering purchasing an MX5. At the moment I think it will be a MK1, I just love the pop up headlights and being older I can insurure it on a classic policy as it will be a weekend play thing.

Does anyone have the performance figures for the 1.8 e.g. 0-60? What sort of MPG do you typically get?

Another concern is luggage capacity as I plan to do weekend trips away. Does anyone have a photo of the inside of the boot with some form of size reference. How much can you pack in there?

Hey

In my opinion MK1 is the best, it is brill to drive and pretty comfy ride. Look on auto trader for a pic of boot space or someone will be along shortly to sort that out n performance. I manage to get a large sized cricket bag comfortably in the boot, with spare wheel behind my seat, and still leave room around the sides etc to add extra

Hope this helps a bit

Cheers Suzanne

G’day mate, welcome to the forum

0-60 time is about …? No one bothers with acceleration times in a Mk1 '5 as most warm/hot hatches will walk all over it but I guess mid 8 secs maybe. The real fun is to be had when the road starts to twist and turn, that’s the bit that brings the smile to your face. MPG, anywhere from 25-37 ish depending on how you drive it, if it falls much below 25 then you are either really enjoying the experience at the red line, or you have a problem

Luggage wise, my partner and I spent 3 months in Europe living out of the boot and a big case mounted on a boot luggage rack, and we still managed to take a large quantity of grog back to blighty.

Have a read through the FAQs most of your questions will have an answer down there

 Hi Steve,

I did the same as you are thinking of, bought a MK1 on a classic policy but after a couple of years i loved driving it so much i sold my daily drive & the MK1 & went out & bought a MK2.5 as my new daily…Now even the trip to work is a pleasure [:D]

Storage wise the MK2 / MK2.5 has slightly more boot space because the spare wheel is under floor level. You can get bootracks on Ebay (£70 ish) & even a go faster MX5 suit case like in my picture. I bought the rack & case for £80 then sold my old rack for £80 lol so a free suitcase [Y]

Also you can pack plenty of stuff on the rear parcel shelf & even buy holdall bags made to fit

And if that`s not enough…get one of these! [;)]

nice trailer…

cant remember who but there is a company which sells a set of 5 or 6 bags which take up every inch of boot space. even a round bag inside the space saver.

That’s the Owners Club shop
