Potentially stupid NC front subframe question!

Hi!

Quick question- I’m going to derust and repaint my front subframe while it’s out of the car, but I noticed these… let’s call them Flappy Washer Doohickeys. Never seen anything like them before, not sure what they do, and not quite sure how to handle the paint around them as they don’t seem easily removable.

Presumably there’s a reason they’re like they are but, I don’t know if it’s for easy assembly, or an important design thing in use…Can I immobilise them? Paint over? Remove paint and refit?

They’re FWD chassis locators. If you look back up at the chassis where they mated you’ll see where they went.
Slop a bit of paint on under and over, I can’t see it being easy to render them useless.
