Had my wheels powder coated recently but stupidly managed to kerb the front n/s wheel. Wow - what a mess, the finish on the wheel just splintered and flaked in a big way. Is this normal or did they do a cheap job on the wheels?
Powder coat is hard to strip from alloy wheels; bead blasting with media sufficient to remove the coating can pit the alloy. I used a stripper recently that turned powder coat to “mud”, but it was a long and laborious job. Essentially, you have coated your wheels with a plastic, not paint.
