Power steering fluid & stop leak šŸ¤”

if i buy this stop leak:
770081
i’m pretty sure it may not have instructions on the back.
so how do i do it?
do i put some of this in, then put the steering fluid in?
or do i mix it into power steering fluid, then put the mix in?
or do i put steering fluid in, then put the stop leak in?
or does it not matter?
thanks

update, according to the halfords, this is unsuitable for a mx5 mk1.
does anyone know if this right?
i’ve only seen one other stop leak, the STP one, which is only available from the USA.
anyone know of another product?
thanks :disappointed:

Just add it into the top up opening.
It may / not work depending on why the system is leaking…given the system is ā€œpressurisedā€ and has a large number of seals & gaskets.
I’d start looking for a good used rack really…but watch for Fleabay type cowboys etc. You can get a decent one for less than 50 quid.
I paid Ā£220,00 recently out of choice but that was a fully rebuilt & G’teed source.

thanks, yeah i didn’t include what the problem was. its the seals.
as thats the case, is it possible to replace just the seals rather than the whole rack?
halfords says that product is unsuitable, so i’m reluctant to do it now.
:disappointed:

I’d like to know why they claim that. ATF fluid is just…basically ATF fluid… and that rack saw service in scores of other vehicles. Odd of them to say…I’d like them to show & tell why tbh as I get a whiff of BS if they are just playing a safety card. Like mine, not exactly 70’ Porker Carrera stuff is it?!!
Yes seals are possible…thats why repair kits are there but as I said…depends on labour/hrs etc against a used rack…but make sure the track rod ends are good.
To be candid…only 2 surefire solutions…reseal or replace.

  • Take from this what you will*
I also have a mk2.5 PAS 2002 model, so I popped the reg into Europarts website to order the Wynns…no issues.
    Quote:
Stops and prevents fluid leaks. Smoothes and quietens power steering. Reduces oxidation of power steering fluid. Can be added to all conventional power steering fluids

Not surprised really.
All very odd though…

My mother required a new cooling fan for her car, put in the numberplate on Eurocarparts, it came back with the result, we ordered it.

We tried to fit it, it was the part ordered, but not correct for her car, it went back.

So just to say, these reg number checks can’t be trusted 100%.

As to Halfords, I just tried my own MX-5 (mk1) & the Wynn’s vehicle check, and it said it wasn’t suitable. So I clicked the show suitable products and it suggested instead of leak sealer, I should be buying Gearbox Oil - something makes me distrust that suggestion :sunglasses:
