Power Steering Problem

I wonder if anyone here can give me some advice please.

Im loosing power steering fluid from the rubber to steel pipe behind the pump. I have seen power steering products that claim to cure this problem. Has anyone here tried these ?

My pipes look a little rusty perhaps its best to replace but never worked on power steering im at a bit of a loss to know whats best. Any suggestions welcome Thank you.

Hi Ivan I,ve never heard of any products that stop power steering leaks , given that you say your pipes are rusty it would be best to change them shouldn,t cost too much .

Slick 50 do a product that claims to stop leaks

Replace, don’t bodge!

I have the same problem if you look there will be a small pin prick hole.

I am going to change for new.

MX5 parts have replacement but they appear expensive even with the extra 10% discount offered so I am looking for factored parts…if anyone has any suggestions where to go please let me know

Thanks Andrew,

I will probably do as you suggest. The old pipes were rusty and look a bit crappy.

Maybe i could find a set of good 2nd hand or perhaps someone does new ones at affordable prices.

thank you ivan.

Ivan

I have struggled to find anywhere else other than MX5 parts for the new pipe work, so I have now bit the bullet and ordered the high pressure and the return pipe new rather than going for second hand.

Hope you sort your problems out soon

Wynns used to make a product called Leak Fix for PAS systems but it was many years ago. I used it in my Triumph Stag in 1975 as it needed its first MOT and there was a three week wait on a  replacement rack. The leak had stopped by the day of the test. All was fine when the new rack arrived and it was never fitted to the car even though I kept the car until 2001.

We have perfectly clean racks ,no rust , and pipework to suit but we don’t sell pipe separately but it may be still cheaper than new pipework.PM me if interested

If its mk2 we may have pipes loose but I need to check condition
