PPF Bottom spacer

I am currently dismantling my car to fit a new clutch. However I seem to have fallen at the first post. I simply cannot remove the bottom spacer from the rear of the power plant frame. You name it, i’ve tried it. Oil/chisels/levers/hammers and even a blow lamp. The stubborn little Barst*d simply refuses to budge.

I love the way the manual says “Simply pry out the spacer”.

The Haynes manual says do NOT remove the top spacers, although I cannot see why on earth this should be. I also notice that several posts on here say that they have removed the top spacers and this does not appear to have caused a problem?

Has anybody had this problem? and what was the result?

You’ll have to perservere with the bottom spacer, it’s a push fit so must just be tight. The upper spacers are a press fit that cut into the PPF on splines like a wheel stud does in the hub. Mazda say that if the inserts are removed the PPF should be replaced. I’ve removed them before and refitted them with no problem. They will come out and go back in OK, it’s your decision.

Thanks.  After typing the above post I think it started to worry. I went out again and did a “Black Adder”, but where he called for his incredibly strong ale  I called for my incredibly large hammer. This, combined with days of previous attempts got it moving.

Yes, looking at it now its out, I can’t see any reason why taking the top ones out would make much difference to a large piece of aluminiums performance? I will remember that next time.
