- My model of MX-5 is: 54 reg Mk2.5, 1.6L Arctic
- I’m based near: West Oxfordshire
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: During winter and when the weather is bad I keep my car garaged and use it on fine days. Consequently the battery drains and up until now I have been jump starting it. I’ve read that the best solution to this is a trickle charger but my garage doesn’t have power sockets and is not near the house. Would a battery isolator prevent it from draining or is there another solution. I’m unfamiliar with my car’s electronics and wouldn’t want to do anything to compromise them. Apologies if this query is answered elsewhere in the forum.
Just Disconnect the Negative lead on the battery

You got the solution right there from @richardn
That’s the way I go also.
As simple as that!
Thanks guys!
I can’t improve on that suggestion either. It will also save damage to your battery. Going flat is a certain way to an early death with lead acid batteries.
Cheers John, I’m grateful.
